YMCA BEDFORD STUYVESANT

The $25 million, 57,000 SF athletic center facility included gymnasium and recreation center. Student activity spaces within the building featured a cardiovascular wellness center and a weight-training fitness center. These two areas are connected with a window-lined walking/jogging track that featured a premium wood floor. The court area is utilized as a practice area for a variety of teams and general student recreation activities. The center also included a new state-of-the-art 400 meter outdoor track encircling a premium multi-sport competition turf.

Lakhani & Jordan provided HVAC and electrical systems design for the new facility. HVAC system design included: a cooling system with two (2) 200 ton air cooled split chillers; and air conditioning unit serving the gymnasium, track, recreation centers and lobby area. Heating system included water-to-water heat exchange for converting high temperature hot water campus system to hot water. The round ductwork and diffusers were designed to achieve aesthetics and open architecture in gymnasium, track and recreation centers. System design also included chilled water for gymnasium, track, and recreation centers and chilled water pumps were provided with VAR for energy savings.
