NEW YORK, NEW YORK

The project involved the design of eleven new ferry landings, and the renovation of four additional ferry landings, for the NYC Economic Development Corporation’s initiative to expand its NYC Ferry service. The unified ferry system connects Manhattan with Queens, Brooklyn, the Bronx, and in 2020 Staten Island – creating an affordable, efficient way to link city residents and commuters by water.

The sites included the following:

  • Bronx: Soundview
  • Queens: Astoria – Hallet’s Cove, Long Island City – Gantry State Park North, and Rockaway – Beach 108th Street
  • Manhattan: Roosevelt Island – Oil Dock, East 90th Street, East 62nd Street, East 34th Street, East 20th Street, Grand Street – Cherry Street, and Pier 11
  • Brooklyn: Brooklyn Bridge Park – Pier 6, Red Hook – Van Brunt Street, Bay Ridge – American Veterans Memorial Pier and Atlantic Basin

Electrical system design included the extension of electric power service from landside utility power connection to new pier and barge for ferry landing, and providing electric distribution (panels, branch circuiting, etc.) for winch motors, canopy lighting, heaters, gangway lighting, and ticketing machines/customer kiosks.
