The initiative of the college was to convert the former campus power plant building into a student center annex, housing student activities spaces, and a variety of lounge, study, and conference spaces. Conklin Hall, originally constructed as a power plant in the early years of the College, was restored and adaptively repurposed as an extension of the new student center.

HVAC system design included air cooled glycol chiller, glycol to water heat exchanger, energy recovery unit (ERU) with VAV/CAV boxes, chilled beams, pumping loop for chilled beams with mixing valve, pumping loop for ERU and a ventilation system for emergency generator.

Campus wide hot water loop was utilized as a heating source. Heating system included primary exiting loop, secondary chilled beam loop with mixing valve and secondary glycol loop to ERU with plate and frame heat exchanger. New direct digital control system communicating with campus BMS was also provided as part of this project.

Electrical system design included one 500kva step down pad mounted transformer (13.2kv – 277/480 V), one 800 amp 277/480 V service, relocation of one existing 500 KW natural gas emergency generator, as well as, fire alarm, communication, security systems, emergency lighting and controls, normal and emergency panels and conduit and wire distribution system.

Plumbing and fire protection system design included low flow fixtures, domestic water system, cold water, sanitary waste and vent system, underground drainage system and sump pumps. Domestic hot water supply, return and recirculation lines were tapped into existing building loop.
