ROCKEFELLER ARTS CENTER RENOVATION & ADDITION
FREDONIA, NEW YORK

The project involved the addition and renovation of the Rockefeller Arts Center which was built in 1968.  The 120,000 SF facility houses faculty offices for the Department of Visual Arts and New Media and the Department of Theatre Arts and Dance, as well as, classrooms, rehearsal halls and spacious, well-equipped art studios, dressing rooms, scenery and costume shops.

This program objectives included renovation of 40,000 SF and a new 60,000 SF addition between two existing buildings, providing additional space for Theater and Fine Arts programs, and connecting the two existing buildings.  The new expansion included a new public entrance, three dance studios, media labs, and new sculpture and ceramics facilities.  The renovation included areas of the existing Rockefeller Arts Center to provide new HVAC systems to two levels of the building.

HVAC system design included 300 tons of cooling with chillers and cooling tower, 275 boiler horse power hot water boiler plant, outside air handling units, computer type air conditioning units, exhaust fan systems, and direct digital controls with building management systems.

Electrical system design included one 2,000 amp 277/480 V service, one 200 KW emergency generator, as well as fire alarm, communication, and security systems.

Plumbing and fire protection system design included domestic water system, cold water, hot water and hot water return, sanitary waste and vent system, low flow fixtures, natural gas system, compressed air system, underground drainage system and sump pumps, fire protection standpipe system including wet and dry sprinkler systems.

This project received the Excellence in Architecture Design Award from the American Institute of Architects Buffalo/WNY Chapter.
